Coffee Exports

Contrary to the popular belief, coffee cultivation was not initiated by the English, but by the Dutch. It was the English who converted it to a steady commercial pace with large scale estates. By 1860, coffee Exporters in Sri Lanka were among the top coffee producers in the world. Unfortunately the latter part of 1800s saw a major decline in production due to the fungal disease known as “coffee leaf rust”.

After many decades, coffee exporters in Sri Lanka are having a come-back. Introduction of the rust-tolerant Arabica and other hybrid coffee varieties has led to increased production. The two types grown in Sri Lanka – Arabica and Robusta – prefer opposite climates, elevations above 800m and less than that. Major areas of growth are Kandy, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Matale, Kegalle and Kurunegala. Today there are more than sixty thousand hectares of coffee cultivated. Preferable flavours of nutty, chocolaty, and berry undertones of Ceylon coffee has made a comeback for coffee exporters in Sri Lanka.

Ceylon Spice Exports

Sri Lanka’s unique climate and soil conditions have led to the growth of many varieties which yield in natural spices of superior quality. As the global demand moves towards pure, organic products with authentic flavours, Spice Exporters in Sri Lanka have increased calls for Ceylon Cinnamon, Cardamom, Cloves, Pepper, Nutmeg and more, in the international market.

Sri Lanka holds the monopoly when it comes to “True Ceylon cinnamon”. Spice Exporters in Sri Lanka have gained prominence in the global market with our unique offerings such as true cinnamon and Ceylon pepper which is rich in piperine content, leading it to have a high level of pungency. Pepper is also known as the “King of Spices”.

Cardamom- the “Queen of spices”-, cloves and nutmeg are appreciated for the exceptional flavour and aroma they bring. Ceylon Cloves are considered to have more oily characteristics than any other in the world. Ceylon Cardamom is a one-off, light green variety highly in-demand in the global market.

Herbal Tea Exports
